The Workspace Way
Most businesses approach their software needs one of these ways:
-
“The Manual Way”
Where your team spends their nights copying, pasting, and reconciling data between spreadsheets, emails and documents, just like their business brethren of decades past.
-
“The Microsoft Way”
Where if you join the club, you’ll find tools for just about every need. But the club comes at a price. And that price is an ever-increasing tax on your business that never goes away.
-
“The SaaS Way”
Where you pay for 25 different tools, none of which do exactly what you want, and none of which talk to each other. So basically a very expensive version of the manual way.
-
“The Zapier Way”
Where you add yet another SaaS to connect all your other SaaS. Now your team spends half their time troubleshooting it, and you spend half yours figuring out how to cover the bill.
-
“The Custom Way”
Where everyone eventually gets exactly what they want, at the cost of drawn-out timelines, a dependency on the people that built it, and a staffing budget that somehow tripled overnight.
-
“The Workspace Way”
Where you actually make full use of what you’re already paying for, the people using the tools are the ones creating them, and your team can scale itself without spending more money.
Wait… The Workspace Way? What’s That?
It’s where instead of just using Google Workspace for Gmail, Sheets, Docs, etc., you use its full capabilities to create customized web apps that look and work exactly the way you want them to. Your data still gets stored inside Google Workspace (and optionally the core systems your business already runs on, like CRM, accounting, or inventory), and your team uses Google’s DIY app creation tools like Google AppSheet, AI Studio, and Workspace Studio to connect everything together. And since your actual subject matter experts are the ones creating and maintaining these apps, they’re perfectly suited to meet the exact needs of your business.

About The Founder
Before The Workspace Way, Doug Burns spent over a decade at HBO, where he helped launch and scale HBO GO, HBO Now, and HBO Max. As Director of Software Engineering, he led large teams and oversaw systems that processed millions of dollars in transactions every day.
Through a career spanning almost 30 years, Doug has worked with companies big and small in publishing, government, entertainment, ecommerce, and more. He’s spent lots of time working with each of the ‘ways’ listed above. Through that experience, he’s seen it all (or at least most of it) and has earned his 10,000 hours (and then some).
Doug lives in upstate New York with his wife and son. When he’s not building things, you’ll usually find him on a ski slope in the winter or a golf course the rest of the year (he even built an app for that).
